Are you living away from home in a dorm? This can be quite liberating, to live in your own space. However, space can be a constraint in dorms. If you are having trouble to fit in all your things and keep the mess to a minimum, here are five tips to help you:

Furniture

The most essential part of any living space is the furniture. Invest in multi-use furniture that can save a lot of space. For example, a foldable table for you to use as a dining table or a study table can be put away to one corner of the room when not in use. Foldable chairs are a great space-saving option too.

A cabinet bed can be a real game-changer in your dorm. The bed can be put away during the day, thus leaving floor space free for you to move around. In addition, since the cabinet can be erected against a wall and comes with many shelves, most of your belongings can be restricted to just one wall.

Declutter

Organize all your things into boxes and neatly label them. This will make the room look more organized, but you can keep your things away from others’; and avoid mixing up.

Having a dedicated box or space to put all your things in to organize them back into their places on weekends can be a great way to keep the clutter to a minimum. But, unfortunately, a cluttered living area can get depressing sooner than you anticipate.

Maximize Space

When space is limited, décor items will be non-existent on your list. However, find something small and attractive to liven up your space. This can be a small flower pot, a wall hanging or just something from home to help you on days you feel homesick.

Clothing

Have a laundry basket for your dirty clothes. If you throw used clothes into a pile on your bed or table, you will soon be sniffing them out to find new clothes as they will all eventually stay in a pile. Having a basket makes you accountable. When the basket is full, it’s time for you to run a wash cycle. A basket with a lid can help you hide away the mess.

Invest in hangers and install rods in your closet. Hanging your clothes will not only enable you to see what you have to wear, but it can save a lot of space and time too. Think of all that time you will be saving by not having to fold your clothes. In addition, when you hang your clothes on rods, the floor space is free for you to store your bags and shoes in. you can store them in neatly labeled boxes, as mentioned earlier.
