Overflow rooms at Doubletree Mission Valley

ACP’s Media + convention in San Diego has outgrown the Marriott Mission Valley. ACP has secured a small block of rooms at the Doubletree San Diego Mission Valley hotel nearby. Although some hotels might be geographically closer, they are separated by highways or other barriers to foot traffic. The Doubletree is accessible via the trolley line (map). The Doubletree is two stops west on the Green Line at the Hazard Center Station, and the Marriott is on the Green Line at the Rio Vista Station. Taking the Green Line west continues to Old Town.

When calling Doubletree at 1 (800) 222-TREE (8733), mention the code “ACP” and say you are with the Associated Collegiate Press college journalism convention. Rates at the Doubletree are $155 for single/double and $10 for each additional person. That rate is lower than the current advertised rate and is just for our convention attendees.

Co-Editor of nonprofit online news site to speak Friday

Andrew Donohue is editor of voiceofsandiego.org, the pioneering nonprofit online daily that focuses on in-depth and investigative reporting in San Diego. He will address the delegates of ACP Media + on Friday at 11:30 a.m. for the general session keynote. andy072308

Donohue oversees the publication’s news coverage, investigative projects and outside contributions. He has fostered the nonprofit online daily’s growth from a small ragtag group of reporters in a dirty office to an established and expanding news outlet that’s being replicated in other cities. The voiceofsandiego.org model is being followed closely as newspapers shrink and communities search for ways to continue providing public-service journalism. The Web site and its watchdog reputation were featured in The New York Times in November.

Donohue, who continues to work on his own reporting projects when he can, has won national awards for investigative reporting and feature writing, including a 2007 Sigma Delta Chi award from the Society of Professional Journalists for online investigative reporting.
